Riddle of Bhutan: Why do we seek out suffering?

Our worst fear on the Bumthang Owl Trek in central Bhutan was that it would rain. We packed to be wet and cold with extra socks and rain pants. As we climbed, thick grey clouds were moving toward us, swallowing the sun that had warmed us all morning.
